I have used LinkedIn to seek out candidates and also to "flesh" out people's resume

Social Media will become one of the most important channels in an effective Talent Acquisition Strategy within 2 years.

LinkedIn has been a great recruiting and research tool. LI is my tool of choice over traditional job-boards and much more suited for a long-term hiring strategy that the more transactional career sites.
