Canto a Quetzalpapalotl

Te vi en la fiesta de Xichiketzal otro día nos encontramos en la fiesta de las flores; muchos días después, me enteré que andabas por el Naucampan viajabas revoloteando por el cielo estrellado.

Ahora vuelvo a contemplarte bellas luces resplandeces, saludas regalando flores a todos los hombres del Anahuac.

De mi corazón brotan flores cuando te miro; en verdad luces como noble mariposa y junto a tí revolotean esparciendo flores muchas otras mariposas.

Viajas en la inmensidad noble mariposa, el sol y la luna te alumbran; a tu morada solo vienes a descansar y a sembrar flores, y nuevamente te alejas de nuestra madre tierra para ir a saludar a nuestro padre el sol.

En verdad mi corazón se alegra al contemplarte, esparces flores menuditas ofreces estrellas haces nacer mariposas. Eres portadora del espíritu de Quetzalcoatl la tinta « roja y negra » es tu escudo eres la sombra de « Ipalnemoani » « Tloque nahuaque » camina contigo. Vuela, vuela, noble mariposa esparce flores en el jardín de los hombres, haz nacer cuatrocientas maripositas aquí en las tierras de Anahuac : lugar de tunales, tierra de águilas, aquí donde ayer peregrinó nuestro gran Señor Quetzalcoatl.
