Choosing the perfect backdrop......ByAngela Marie Events and Ashleigh JaynePhotography

This shoot was to inspire every southern bride totake the time to create breath-takingphotographs. Taking the time to collaborate withtheirphotographer infinding thatperfectbackdrop, thatperfect light, that perfectsouthern feel,it’s what makestheday….perfect.After manymiles of drivingand searching, Istumbled across an old saw mill that hadbeen converted into old hay barn for a localfamily’s cows that roam the many pasturessurrounding their property. The gorgeous oaks inour area are over 300 years old. And thisparticular oak provided us with a picturesquebackdrop for our bride. The mossy limbs, the oldbarn, the curious cows, and rolling pasture, allmade for breath-taking photos. For our shoot, our bride wore a lace gown fromBHLDN. The simple lacestyle, with anude slip underneath wasperfect for the rustic farmfeel we were hoping to create. She waswearing earrings found froma local antique shop and asilver bud ring also fromBHLDN.Her golden locks werestyled by Dustin Gauthierand her make-up was by TinaRodostaof Verde Beauty. Her hairand make-up were simple. No frills needed for thiscountry farm girl;we wanted her natural beautyto be seen.We started the shoot with a fun take on a boudoirsession. I had Sugar Plum Cottage(Etsy) make her super cute, old-feel bloomers with

a touch of pink ribbon. Her hair was flippedunder for a bob, with a BHLDN Charlestonheadband. She wore her bloomers with an antiqueshort pink robe, and also a crème de menthe topperfrom BHLDN. She posed on an old whiskeybarrel in Mimosa t-strap BHLDN heels and wealso had her play in some old vintage sheets on

an old wash line in thebackyard. When I think of old farmdays, I think of an old kitchen. The heart of the South, especially in Louisiana, is inthe kitchen. Why not bringthat feel to our shoot? Usingsacks offlour and sugar, brown eggs, old sifters and vintage kitchenutensils; I brought the kitchentoour table. I added beautiful

plates from Anthropologie, old vintage flatwaretied in the mossfrom that gorgeous oak, beautiful hand writtenplace cards, by Jo Miller of MillerLine Design, onold papyrus, and eyelet napkins monogrammed forour bride and groom. Every southern eventmust have at least one thing monogrammed, right?I love using what this Earth has to sharewith us each and every day. When styling an eventI always like to use something from the

property or venue, when I can. Therewere some beautiful pear trees on theproperty that Ijust couldn’t resist using here and therethroughout the shoot. Our foodgoodies were simple desserts straightout the kitchen. A three tier naked cakefrom our local bakery, The AmbrosiaBakery, was topped with a simpleflower topper, placed ona wine barrel. The rustic fig pies weremade by pastry chef, Heidi Pittman, ofHeirloom Cuisinesand MillerLine Design painted thelittle wood sign.To throw in a cute twist on our farmfeel, I thought, how cute would it be toask gueststo leave their “recipe to a happy

marriage” for a bride and groom on the day of theircountrywedding? Jo Miller designed the sign and therecipe box and cards are from Rifle Paper &Co.

Our beautiful invitation suite was designedespecially for us by The First Snow. Darahwith First Snow designed by logo months back, and I have been in love ever since. Her take onthe farm feel, was designing an invitation withbranches that make a subtle heart, giving it thatquaint Southern charm found in the country.Bringing the love of flowers to everything shecreates, she hand paints every detail.I am responsible for all the floral throughout theshoot. I tried to use as many texturesas I could, but also keeping that very earthy feel inher bouquet. I used dahlias, caramel gardenroses, white veronica, maiden hair fern, tree fern, astilbe, spray roses, wax flowers, Italianruscus, and scabosia pods. In the shoot she wasalso holding a wooded ice cream pail with pinkhydrangeas and seeded eucalyptus. The tablearrangements also had lemon leaf, pinkhydrangeas, and privet berries with all the otherflowers/plants listed above. The headpieceshe was wearing in the fields had a more dramaticcolorful feel, using lots more garden rosesand pink spray roses.Jo Miller was responsible for painting ourbeautiful sign under the oak, lyingagainst a mossy fallen trunk. She is a local artistand calligrapher.Timeless Vintage Rentals provided all of theantique furniture and accessories seenthroughout the shoot.

By the time you get engaged, you and your significant other have probably already formed ideas of what you want your wedding tolook like, sound like, and feel like.

BudgetFirst of all, you have to consider budget.

What are you able to afford?

Set down a number up front and stick with venues within orunder this price range.

Realistically, every couple will be able to afford differentvenues.

Don’t make the wedding planning more stressful on yourselfby wishing you could afford what others can.

Fortunately for you, many wedding venues have differentpackages depending on things like how much of their locationyou use and on what day of the week you choose to get marriedon.

You should easily be able to find a wedding venue withinyour budget that also has the look and feel you want.

SizeSize is also very important for picking a wedding venue.

Though you won’t be sending out invitations for a while yet, discuss with your significant other the approximate guest countyou’d like to aim for.

Take into account the day of the week you’re getting marriedon (many guests won’t be able to attend if you choose aweekday instead of a weekend wedding).

Search for venues that will comfortably fit these numbers, and avoid any that would feel too squished or too empty whenfilled with guests.

LocationDon’t forget location, too!

Though this is of course your wedding day, you have toconsider your guests’ ability to attend depending on location.

For example, grandma probably won’t be able to fly toFrench Polynesia, and many of your friends most likely can’tafford it, either.

Aim to pick a wedding venue in a location where themajority of those you want to attend your wedding will be ableto make it with little or no inconvenience.

ReligionIs religion important to one or both of you?

In this case, you could look for a venue that will properlyincorporate this element of your lives into your wedding day.

This may be the same as or separate from a reception site.

Make sure to check with any church, synagogue, etc. thatyou might want to book as they often have their ownrequirements for religious ceremonies.

Feel/MoodOf course you also want to look for a wedding venue that

has the right feel for the type of wedding you’re aiming for.

A grand estate in Colorado, for example, definitely doesn’twork if you’re more interested in a beach-themed wedding.

This advice might seem like common sense, but sometimeseven the smallest element of a location can mess up the feel ofyour wedding.

Pay close attention to the details of venues you’reconsidering, like lighting, angles, building, materials, and moreto ensure it all contributes to creating the mood you want.

Work Required

Finally, avoid any venues that will require too much workbeyond what you’re willing to put in.

For example, if a venue is poorly kept or without basics liketables and chairs, you’ll have to factor in all this extra work intoyour own time.

Do you want a venue that provides the food without havingto hire an outside caterer?

Would you prefer the venue already have its own tablelinens?

All these types of questions need to be considered.

Go find it!If you follow these six guidelines to picking your perfect

wedding venue, you’ll find that your options are limited to aneasily manageable selection.

Now you just need to pick and start preparing for your bigday!

Picking The Perfect Venue For Your Wedding

I have a confession to make, I LOVE sweets. However, I’m sure I’m not the only onewith this secret. I love the idea of couples including a candy buffet at their weddingreception for their guests.

This gives the adult guests the opportunity to bring out their inner-child and withoutfeeling guilty by indulging in different sweets during or after the reception.

Candy buffets are not a new trend; however they are still a big hit at receptions, whichis why I wanted to share with you 5 ways to ensure that your candy buffet is a success.

You want your candy buffet to stand out. A beautiful candy buffet has height, textureand most importantly decor. If you have a specific theme, you can also incorporate yourtheme with the buffet. Most couples ask is how much candy should they buy? Plan by how you want the

display to look, not howmany guests arecoming. Havingenough candy iscrucial in making yourcandy buffet lookgood. Hiring aprofessional to do it willensure that you have justenough candy foryour guests.Having bags or boxes

will allow for guests totake the candy homeor back to their tableduring the reception. They also add a special touch to the table.Add labels and/or tags to each jar of candy. Each label and/or tag can have a special

To Second Line or Not............What is Second-Line exactly?

If you're in New Orleans or any part of southern Louisiana, for that matter, and you hear someone shout outSecond-Line, get ready for the dance of your life!

The Historic Second-Line dance can be traced back to the 19th century and was known especially amongthe African-American community. Once the tradition for all old New Orleans Jazz funerals theSecond-Line as become Louisiana's own expression of dance. In many respects it is like a conga line witha lead dancer and everyone else following in tow. Add a little bling and the spices from the culturalgumbo that is Louisiana and you have a Second-Line!

Most all New Orleans natives use a second-line umbrella or handkerchief to help them with theirexpression of joy during the dance. Twirl your umbrella or waye your handkerchief while shaking yourhips is all that is needed. There is no right or wrong way since it is an expression of the joy that is withinyou.

Dancing the Second-Line can now be seen at Weddings, Anniversaries, Graduation, Football Games, MardiGras, Bachelorette and Birthday Parties. It is done at all celebrations and enjoyed by everyone. The dancehas become so popular through out Louisiana that Brides and Grooms carry their own specially madeumbrellas with guests joining them with their napkins and handkerchiefs. It is not uncommon for NewOrleans natives to carry a themed umbrella for special events or as an accessory to their costumes.

So if you are planning a party to celebrate the spirit of New Orleans don't forget your Second-Line umbrella. You will be the life of the party and the leader of the dance.

Standard wedding traditions are changing. Weddings have evolved into a celebration of thecommitted love and personal style of the bride and groom. My name is Anna Coy. I am theowner of To Hold & To Have, www.holdandhave.com. I create bridal bouquets and bridal

party pieces that last a lifetime using satin, paper, crystals and personal keepsakes.Having worked in the floral industry for a number of years I've witnessed the shifting trends ofbridal bouquets. The standard floral bouquet can capture the the entire feel and story of yourwedding. The dilemma occurs after the ceremony and reception. That beautiful floral symbolgets thrown away. For the couple that may not want to toss their bouquet after the wedding,

there are some fun and meaningful options. I'd like to introduce you to several styles ofbouquets I offer as options for the keepsake bouquet!

The Love Story BouquetsShare your story with your wedding guests.Roses created from book pages can be alovely way to incorporate your style toyour bouquet. Perhaps a classic romancecan capture your sentiment.
