BEGINNER1. LESSON #4. ALLONS BOIRE UN VERRE

- Je m’appelle Marie. Je suis une femme.- Je m’appelle Jean. Je suis un homme.- J’ai un garçon.- J’ai une fille.- Allons boire un verre !

TRANSLATION

- My name is Marie. I’m a woman.- My name is Jean. I’m a man.- I have a son.- I have a daughter.- Let’s have a drink !

Femme (fém.) : a woman.Homme (masc.) : a man.Fille (fém.): a daughter, a girl.Garçon (masc.) : a son, a boy.Et : and.

You don’t have to remember Allons boire un verre for now. You’ll be able to understand the structure of this sentence later yourself.

All nouns in French have a gender, either masculine or feminine. Articles must agree in gender with the nouns they go with.

For a masculine noun, we use un : un homme, un fils.For a feminine noun, we use une : une femme, une fille.

We won’t lie. You’ll have trouble with the genders for a certain amount of time. But don’t worry. First, we are here to help and next, we love hearing un voiture, ma téléphone instead of une voiture (a car), mon téléphone (my phone). We find it adorable.
