Students in the Grade 3/4 class worked enthusiastically

during their presentations of the AIM play, "Le chat et la

lune." I had no idea how many great actors and actresses

attended North Elmsley! As January sets in, our focus

will be on winter activities enjoyed here in Ontario, as

well as in other French-speaking areas. Our dictes will

resume next week on Friday, January 17th so students

will go home with spelling words to practise towards the

    end of this week.

Prior to the break, students presented the AIM play,"Louis la grenouille" in their play groups. It was an

exciting couple of days in the French room filled with

ponds, guitars, frog costumes, and even genies! This

week student's will be working on their Pen Pals letters in

response to the letters they received in December from

France. In February we will be spending time looking at

the Winter Olympics and Qubec's Winter Carnival as a

way of incorporating French culture into the classroom.

    Go team Canada!

Students in Kindergarten have been working

diligently at communicating in French using

body language and gestures. "La poule

Maboule" was an exciting way of

introducing students to the AIM program as

they became quite familiar with the story,

songs and animals involved. This month, the

French program will continue its' focus on

    developing new vocabulary through gestures

as students become more familiar with short

    commands and sayings. Winter clothing,

winter activities and the seasons will be our

topics of focus in the next couple of months.

With desks pushed off to the side, caves

made out of blankets, and props such as hats

and ears, students in the Grade 1/2 class

presented the AIM play, "La poule Maboule"

before heading home for the holidays. In

January, students will practise vocabularyassociated with emotions and expressions in

order to provide them with the necessary

tools to better express themselves in French.

The months of November and December focused on French cuisine and the culture of French cafs in France.

Students teamed up to create restaurants of their own, which included a business proposal, a logo of their restaurant, a

menu and even a skit of an interaction taking place between a server and customer at their restaurant. It was a great

way of allowing students to be creative in an authentic way, while also incorporating French culture into the program. Before heading home for the holidays, students also received letters from their Pen Pals from France. Their responses

were all insightful and unique. I can't wait to see what our Pen Pals have to write about next! As the Winter Olympics

and Qubec's Winter Carnival are quickly approaching, I'm looking forward to bringing these traditions and activities

into our French class. We will spend time looking at the similarities and differences between to two events, while

tracking Canada's progress and French athletes along the way. Another important focus for the Grades 6/7 and 8

classes will be on our Caf Franais, which we will be organizing as a class to later host as an evening event for

families to experience and enjoy. Please stay tuned!

If you haven't already, please feel free to like my Facebook page or follow me on Twitter. I will

continue to use both social media sites to post exciting details about what is taking place insideof the French classroom including projects, lessons, events, etc.
