The DKS 40 Incremental Encoder
offers exceptional quality for its
price and its range of application.
Its housing is a solid zinc die-cas-
ting and is extremely compact in
its design, having an external dia-
meter of only 50 mm. As a con-
sequence, valuable space can be
spared when installed.
By adopting highly successful Mini-
Disc technology, the DKS 40 is ex-
tremely robust and can resist high
levels of shock and vibration. Be-
sides has the DKS 40 a very high
protection class IP 64.
Specify your individual 50 mm dia.
Encoder.

Encoder are measuring instruments produced in accordance withrecognised industrial regulations
The installation of the Encoder is to be carried out by trainedpersonal with knowledge of electrical engineering and precisionengineering.
A DKS40 Encoder must be used only for the purpose appropriate to its design.
Safety advice Observe the professional safety and accident prevention regula-
tions applicable to your country. Switch of the voltage to all the devices/ machines and plant invol-
ved in the mounting. Never electrically connect or disconnect the Encoder with the
voltage switched on, otherwise this may lead to damage to the Encoder.
For the satisfactory operation of the devices, care must be paid togood earthing and to a screen connection suitable for EMC (screen connected at both ends).
 Avoid striking the shaft.
General adviceThe more accurately the centering for the Encoder is, the lower arethe angular offset and shaft offset after the installation and the smal-ler is the stress applied to the coupling and the bearing of theEncoder. In order not to stress the coupling during the installation, always fixthe Encoder by its flange first and then fasten the coupling onto thedrive shaft. In case of the Encoders with cable outlet, the screening braid is con-nected to the housing. From the point of view of EMC, it is absolutely necessary for the hou-sing or cable screen to be connected to earth or ground. This can be done by connecting the screening braid of the cable. Thescreening braid should be connected over a large area.
Encoder with face mounting flange
In the case of this flange design, there are 3 installations options
via 3 holes on the flange side via 3 mounting links on the flange side by clamping the mounting spigot

Installation by clamping the moun-ting spigot (Figure 3)
Installation Since the mounting spigot is also the means of centring, theclamping device must be constructed in such a way that when itis clamped firmly, no impermissible angular or shaft offset results.
