O B J E C T I F S

L'6valuation et l 'analyse quantitative des syst~mes infer- matiques (charge, mat6riel et logiciel) ont pris un int6r6t crois- sant cette derni6re d6cade : leurs d6veloppements deviennent d 'une importance grandissante due b. la multiplicit6 des syst6mes et h la complexit6 de leur fonctionnement. Le principal objectif de ce domaine est la recherche constante de nouveaux outils d'6valuation permettant l 'utilisation des ressources informatiques disponibles avec le maximum d'6conomie et d'efficacit6.

Le Colloque << Mod61isation et Outils d 'Analyse de Per- formance >> a pour but de r6unir chercheurs et industriels pour 6changer leurs id6es, pr6senter leurs exp6riences, exposer leurs pr6occupations et faire le point sur l '6tat de l 'art. Nous pensons que ce colloque peut entrainer un essor rapide sur le plan technique et th6orique, car il y a un besoin accru de r6soudre diff6rents probl~mes li6s /a ces sujets. Nous souhaitons qu'b. l 'issue de ce colloque les efforts soient coordonn6s sur ptusieurs plans :

- - e n c o u r a g e r les 6tudes, les recherches, les applications dans ce domaine ;

- - rationaliser les m6thodes et les moyens ; - - standardiser les outils et les techniques.

O B J E C T I V E S

The performance evaluation and quantitative analysis o f comput- ing systems have gained a growing interest this last decade : their development became extremely important due to the multipli- city and variety o f systems and the complexity o f their functioning. The principal target is a constant research for evaluation tools which would allow resource utilization with the maximum o f economy and efficiency.

One o f the main objectives o f the International Conference on Modelling Techniques and Tools for Performance Analysis is to convene Research, University and Industrial teams to exchange their ideas, present their experience and preoccupations and establish the state o f the art. We think that this Conference should develop the existing and continuous efforts, both on theore- tical and technical levels and might meet the increasing needs to solve different problems associated with system performance. We hope that, at the end o f this meeting, the efforts could be coordinated towards several directions :

- -encouraging the studies, researches and applications in these domains ;

- - rationalizing the methods and means ; - - standardizing the tools and techniques.
