After the pressure is reduced, process components of lower pressure rating may be used. The rule is that a pressure containing process component should: ~ either be designed to withstand the maximum internal pressure which can be exerted on it under any con~ ditions, - or be protected by a pressu e relieving devfce [Safety Relief Valve or Rupture Disc). To determine the system design pressure ratings it is necessary to show pressure rating boundaries on mechanical flow sheets such as shown on page SAF.6. Each section of flow line or process component has an assigned operating p re ss ur e, e .g .: ~ From the Flowhead down to the Floor Cho~e Manifold the working pressure must be higher than the shut-in tubing pressure. This will lead to the choice of the Floor Choke Manifold Assembly. ! FOR SUB EQUENT SECTIONS THE WORKING PRESSURE IS DETERMINED TO SUIT PIPING CONNECTIONS. Pipings and/or equipme ts are coiour coded to recognize their working pressure: Orange m ea ns 3000 p s i WP ( 6000 p s i TP ) R e d 5000 p s i WP (10000 ps.i T P ) Black 10000 ps i W P (15000 p s i T P ) White 15000 psi WP (22500 p s i T P ) The item with the lowest pressure rati~g within a section determines the pressure rating of this section Make sure the Well Head equipment down to the Choke Manifold is able to withstand the maximum expected shut-in pressure., All other components are protected by making sure that pressure will_always ,remain lower than, the rat,ed_, working pressure. For all com onents where working pressure is lower than the shut-in Well Head pressure, this protection is provided by a normally closed (NC) Surface Safety Valve (SSV) located on the flow line and remotely controlled by pilots preferably located on each pre sure section. These pilots are adjusted to respond whenever pressure increases above the allowed W.P. of each of these sections. O n high pressure tests (5000 p s i < WHP < 10000 psi) or in case of sour gas, the Surface Safety Valve must be installed upstream of the Floor Choke Manifold. The Surface Safety Valve is actuated by flow line pressure sensors provided on each fl w line segment of different working pressure down to the separator. ' Additional safety is insured by the use of an emergency shut-down system JESD) cting on the Flaw line Valve of the Flowhead. Use of ESD is strongly recommended whenever WH pressure exceeds 5000 p si . O n very high pressure, tests (10000 p si < WHP < 15000 p s i 1 there is an Automatic Choke, reducing the pressure to 10000 psi immediately after the Flow Line Valve. All preceeding remarks remain valid. In case of sour gas or high pressure tests (> 5000 psi) it is mandatory that one of the ESD stations be set-up at the separator, other stat10ns will be set-up accord,ng to th~ customer's lnstruct1ons. However l t IS recommended that the stations to shut-in the ESD be provided on each flow line segment of diffe- rent working pressure down to the oil and gas manifolds. When no Surface Safety Valve is use , it is the operator's res onsibility to check and make sure that the pressure always remain lower than the worki g pressure assigned to each section. The separator is provided with pressure relieving devices (Farris Safety Valve and Rupture Disc).

e1- Safety standards.

The following standards, whichever the no st stringents, have been excerpted either from the APIRP 500 B or from the Safety Recommendations issued by the French Association of the Oil and Gas Ex-plorers and Producers:

Although the spirit of both reglementations does not differ very much, the API RP 500 B is res-tricted to the classification of areas for tlectrical Installations at drilling rigs and productionfacilities on land and off-shore, whereas the French Recommendations cover also disposition of openfires and engines.

There is also a Flopetrol policy, based on experience, to recommend that classified areas within awell testing set-up should not cross or overlap.
